Fit & Sizing During Pregnancy
When should I buy maternity jeans?
Most women find they need maternity jeans around weeks 12–16, when regular waistbands start to feel uncomfortable. But everyone is different — if your jeans are digging in, it’s time.
Do I need to size up?
No — stick with your regular size. Our jeans and tops are designed to grow with your bump and fit throughout pregnancy. For our Boyfriend Fit jeans (made from rigid denim), we recommend sizing up for comfort.
Will these jeans fit in the first trimester?
Yes. Our designs are made to feel like “normal jeans” early on, with discreet belly bands that don’t feel bulky before your bump shows.
Comfort During Pregnancy
Do the jeans put pressure on my belly?
No. The over-belly jersey panel is soft and stretchy, designed to support without squeezing. Many moms find it actually relieves pressure around the bump.
What if I have sensitive skin or get itchy around my belly?
Our belly bands are made with soft, breathable jersey fabric that reduces irritation. We avoid rough seams or elastics against the skin.
Postpartum Use
Can I wear these after giving birth?
Absolutely. Our jeans and basics are designed for postpartum too. Many women wear them in the weeks and months after birth, when their bodies are still adjusting.
Are the tops nursing-friendly?
Yes, many of our jersey basics and wrap styles are perfect for breastfeeding — soft, stretchy, and easy to pull down or wrap open.
How long can I expect to use Ilouity pieces postpartum?
As long as you like. Our philosophy is longevity — these pieces are meant to live beyond pregnancy, so you can keep wearing them into your everyday wardrobe.
Practical Concerns
Do the jeans stretch out or lose shape?
No. Our denim is high quality and designed to hold its shape through pregnancy and beyond.
Can one pair of jeans last multiple pregnancies?
Yes. With proper care, our jeans are built to last — many customers wear the same pair for two or three pregnancies.
Are your fabrics safe during pregnancy?
Yes. We use organic and recycled fabrics certified by GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and other standards, so you can trust they’re safe for sensitive skin and for your baby.
Building Your Wardrobe
How many pieces do I actually need?
We recommend starting with:
- One-two pair of maternity jeans in your preferred fit
- 2–3 jersey basics (tees/tanks/longsleeves)
- One layering piece (cardigan, knit, or shirt) - likely you already have one!
- Something to dress up, suit trousers or square neck dress - depending on your lifestyle
- Leggings - for everyday relaxing or dressing up.
From there, add only what you find yourself missing — you don’t need a full wardrobe replacement.
